WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., July 2 (UPI) — Many images on television — not just the ones adults typically think of as frightening — can be disturbing to young children, U.S. researchers say.

Marina Krcmar, a professor at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., says recent research published in the journal Pediatrics shows the TV viewing habits of children ages 3-5 can affect their sleep patterns.

Krcmar says characters that look benign can still be scary. For example, Mr. Peanut may not look scary to an adult but for a small child the 6-foot character can appear scary.

“Any unusual image may be frightening to a preschooler,” Krcmar says in a statement. Full post…

NEW YORK, June 28 (UPI) — Nine U.S. programs in comprehensive management of health information are graduating their first classes, totaling about 500 students this summer, officials say.

Dr. Farzad Mostashari, the national coordinator for health IT, saluted the first class from Columbia University, partnering with Cornell University in New York City, for being a part of an innovative program aimed at using modern data technology to improve the U.S.
